Summary: Shikamaru may be a genius, but he doesn’t get life. Because behind it all, too much of anything is bad for you.

His brain got him in more trouble than it got him out of.
Sure, because of his 200 IQ, his life and that of others was saved on quite a few occasions, but…
The problem, Shikamaru decided, with being a genius was the endless thoughts running through your mind — the endless plans.
And the reckless disregard for those who weren’t you.
All because he believed he could get away with everything.
He WAS a genius after all.
But he couldn’t.
And now he’d lost what meant everything to him.
He deserved it, he knew.
He deserved the gaping pain in his heart.
The destructive, gut-wrenching feeling.
Self-hatred.
Oh, he most certainly deserved it.
She didn’t.
She didn’t deserve the shock and pain as she found out.
Shikamaru’s decision to…juggle two women: one he cared for and one to pass the time, was his err entirely.
He desperatley wished he could take away the pain in her eyes as she caught them.
For a genius, Shikamaru knew he wasn’t too bright.
You get told you’re a genius long enough and you begin to think no one else matters.
He didn’t deserve her.
He deserved the hurt.
He loved her.
And because he did, he wished to take away what he’d done to her.
He most certainly cared for Temari above all things, but his brain still decided to play her like a game.
He hated being a so-called genius.
